We’ve discussed CLMs (Career Limiting Moves) in the past. CLMs are actions that can lead to losing one’s employment.
What may be, and often is, a terminable offense is sharing confidential company information with unauthorized parties. It doesn’t matter whom is the unauthorized party – such as a former employee, how much you trust the person – such as a close family member, or what is the reason – such as a technical resolution, you should anticipate serious negative repercussions if your employer learns of this lapse of judgment. Your trust of a person does not obligate your employer to trust the person.
If you feel you absolutely must share something that might contain confidential information with an unauthorized person, delete the confidential information first. Do not permit the unauthorized person to access the company’s computer or network.
